Sometimes I’ll go home for lunch as I only live 5 minutes from work. I usually do this when I feel like saving a tiny bit of cash or if I just need to chill for a little while before returning to the daily slog.
Earlier this week, I whipped up these noodles in about 10 minutes using my bit-of-this and bit-of-that cooking technique which actually turned out quite nice.
If I can recall correctly, the dish consisted of:
- wide rice noodles
- a bit of chicken
- a bit of choy sum
- a bit of zucchini
- a bit of fried tofu
- some shitake mushrooms
- 2 eggs.
- a chilli
- a splosh of dark soya sauce
- a splash and dash of light soya sauce
- a smidgen of sugar
Fry the rice noodles with dark soya sauce. Remove from heat.
Fry everything else until soft, add noodles and light soya sauce. Move everything to the side of the wok, crack the eggs into the gap and let it cook for a bit. Stir fry everything together until nice and sexy. Eat.
Too easy, too tasty and quicker than waiting at the KFC drive through, I kid you not.

My favourite pizza in all of Darwin comes from the aptly named Pizza King in Hibiscus Shopping Centre.
Here we have a large Italian which fed my sister and I for dinner then breakfast and lunch the next day. Good thing we didn’t get the 18″ extra large pizza then.
They are very generous with their toppings and the pizza’s are hand prepared to fresh perfection. Be prepared to wait a while during busy times though, once I had to wait for just over an hour for my bloody pizza, thankfully this specimen you see here only took half an hour.
One time some nitwit old geezer lost my order and then screwed up the replacement (thank the heavens he no longer works there). Other than that, this pizza is the real deal baby. I’ll have a gourmet pizza over a mass produced 10 minute Domino’s piece of crap anyday.
Pizza King can be found at:

I took my lovely girlfriend to Bahn Thai restaurant in Cullen Bay for Valentine’s Day. It was my first time and I was quite impressed. Lovely decor and ambience with soft traditional Thai music playing in the background. I quite enjoyed the food, a step up from the fare you get at the take-away Bahn Thai’s.
We ate:
- steamed dim sims
- steamed vegetables with peanut sauce
- fried chicken strips with cashew nuts and
- chu chee barramundi (fish)
My favourite was the chu chee, the sauce was absolutely divine and the barramundi was excellent; it’s my favourite eating fish by far and the chef did it justice.
The dim sims were very tender and yummy, the steamed vegetables could have been cooked a bit longer and the fried chicken got a bit on the tough side after a few helpings.
I’ll be back again for sure.
You can find Bahn Thai at:
62 Marina Boulevard
Cullen Bay, NT 0820

Just don’t confuse it with the take-aways at Hibiscus and Palmerston shopping centres.
